The Indian Leather Export Council engaged Aqualibre Africa to create a sector-wide carbon-credit strategy for Chennai’s leather and accessories industry — a global manufacturing hub.

AQLA helps tanneries measure, reduce, and monetise emissions through verified projects, introducing renewable energy, improved wastewater systems, recycling, and bio-based tanning.

Emission reductions are converted into community-linked carbon credits, giving factories secondary income while meeting ESG and global brand compliance standards.

This initiative makes sustainability a financial asset, positioning India’s leather sector as a global model for ethical manufacturing — delivering cleaner water, safer workplaces, and stronger communities.
